The guilt was almost overwhelming.
Inuyasha was in the kitchen, ears drooped, as he haltingly tried to explain what had happened to Kagome. Souta held his mother's dress crying softly.
It had been six weeks since he had seen Kagome's kidnapping by Sesshomaru and since then no word. It had been hard living with the uncertainty of what could possibly be happening to his grand daughter now. Sitting at the table for meals and wanting to say something, anything, but knowing it would only cause the others pain and worry. Coming to grips with his part in the current circumstances was not something he had come to terms with yet. As painful as the situation was he still believed in the scrolls written by Sesshomaru-sama, the spell he had cast and that Kagome was somehow safe. He just needed to hold on to that faith, that this was the course to his grand daughter's future happiness. For that he would sacrifice his own.
“Mama?”
Gramps raised his head, fraught with anxiety to look at the open doorway along with the others. Kagome was standing there dressed in an exquisite kimono, her hair swept back and held in place with jeweled combs. For the space of several seconds no one moved, not even Inuyasha who held a look of complete shock on his face. Kagome pulled up the sides of her kimono and ran to glomp her mother, hugging and crying. Souta half crying, half laughing, wiped his eyes and waited for his chance to hug his sister.
Once Kagome released her hold on them Inuyasha swooped in and gathered her to him in a tight embrace which she returned. Inuyasha pulled back and ran the back of his hand down her cheek.
“Sesshomaru?”
“He let me go.”
