Inuyasha’s persistence eventually paid off. She tore her eyes away from the battle and took in a deep breath.

“Yes, I’m fine,” she reassured him, her voice shaking a little. She glanced down, checking her body for injuries. Apart from bruised and bloodied hands she was in good shape. Another few seconds stranded on that cliff and...

Her body shuddered in reflex and her gaze dropped to the ground. It was only then that she noticed the blood. It stained the earth between them, connecting their bodies like opposing shores of a glistening crimson lake.

“Inuyasha...”

She glanced up at him horror struck. The blood was his. He uttered a ‘keh’ of disgust and shielded the wound on his stomach with his arm.

“It’s nothin’. That ugly waste of space got a lucky hit in with its claws,” he muttered, his pride sounding more wounded than his body.

She pursed her lips and gave him a dubious look. It wasn’t ‘nothing’. He was hiding it well but he was seriously injured. The pained grimace on his features said it loud and clear.

The ruthless precision and passion behind Sesshomaru blade made sense to her now.  He was saving them both.
