Summary: Apparently Sesshomaru is afraid of something!
The frenzied movement and intense noise of battle had very suddenly been replaced with the whiteness of a blank page and the sharp clack of a loom. Inuyasha was made nervous at the sudden change of locale, and his panic started to rise when he realized his opponent had come with him.
"Oi, bastard! Whaddya pull this time?!" Brandishing a Tetsusaiga that had transformed back to its rusty disguise, he snarled and refused to show Sesshomaru his agitation.
"I can assure you this Sesshomaru has pulled nothing, little brother." His tone lacked its normal arrogance, and the title held no insult for once. Sesshomaru's tones were clipped and more controlled than usual. And that's when Inuyasha smelled the fear, coming off Sesshomaru in waves. As the loom clacked again, Inuyasha let go of his bravado.
If this was enough to scare Sesshomaru, then something serious was afoot, indeed.
Sesshomaru looked around and found the figure he expected to sitting at her loom to his left. Her clothing was tattered, torn, barely more than mismatched rags and they stood in contrast to the fabric she wove. Gossamer strands so fine they could have come from infant spiders were diligently run between the guide threads, and pressed gently down into the mesh to add to the growing bolt.
Following Sesshomaru's gaze, Inuyasha realized the source of his brother's fear. There was nothing he could place it on, the woman at the loom was hardly intimidating, but he was scared all the same. Ears flattening on the top of his head, he became mesmerized by the cloth on the loom. Before he realized it, he was standing next to the loom gazing into the fabric - he swore he could see something in, or through it.
“Tell me,” a raspy woman's voice whispered. “What is it that you see?” The woman at the loom looked up at Inuyasha, not ceasing her motion. Finally he knew what bothered him. The woman had no face, except for two empty spaces where eyes should be.
“He sees nothing!” Sesshomaru grabbed Inuyasha's shoulder and pulled him away from the loom. Tokijin kept falling through the non-existant floor.
“Hmm...” the woman sighed. “I suppose that takes care of one problem.” She continued to add to her project. “Though perhaps you should tell me if you are still blind to the pattern as well, Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western Lands.”
