Summary: Kagome sees something that she never wanted to see and thinks about her relationship with Sesshoumaru.
"Maybe she was just an old friend," Kagome muttered as she paced the apartment. "She was an old friend, and they were in a crowd and didn't want to get separated." An hour of convincing herself that the beautiful woman holding her boyfriend's hand had been a cousin, an aunt (an awfully young aunt), an old friend, an ex-girlfriend, something other than what her gut feelings told her. Had he been lying to her all of this time? Was she the only one in the relationship that upheld their promise not to wander? Why, if she was the only one for him as he so many times claimed, would he be seeing another woman behind her back?
Kagome wasn't an insecure woman. She was far from it. Unfortunately, over time, he was beginning to make her feel less secure in their relationship. What was so horribly wrong with her that he had to go into the arms of another woman, and then be seen with her in the middle of the same crowded shopping mall that Kagome worked in? Did he want her to see them together? What was so wrong with her that he needed someone on the side? Was it because she wouldn't try some of the more kinky things he enjoyed?
She was a fool for him, plain and simple, otherwise she wouldn't put up with his lies. He had hurt her before, but she couldn't push him away. His nonchalant attitude made things hard, made her want to scream sometimes, yet no matter what he did she couldn't bring herself to end the life that they shared together. He was the only man that she loved.
She stopped her pacing when she heard the front door open and then close. Keys hitting the table by the door. Coat being put in the closet. "I'm home!"
"In the hallway!" she called back.
She tried not to show her anger when Sesshoumaru came into the hallway and kissed her on the cheek. "How was your day?"
"It was fine," she replied. "Yours?"
He smiled, the smile that she thought he reserved only for her until she saw him smile the same smile for the woman at the mall. "Fantastic," he said, kissing her again. "I'm going to take a shower."
Kagome nodded and watched him walk into the bathroom. The smell of perfume, one that wasn't hers, trailed behind him as he walked away.
