They’d won.
Four battered survivors traded stunned glances in the sudden silence.
Hard-fought. Hard-won. But it was so hard knowing her friends’ courage wouldn’t even merit a footnote in history. No medals for bravery. No ticker-tape parade. No celebrity endorsements. Kagome chuckled weakly at her own foolishness. Wasn’t it enough that they’d done it?
Just then, a lone figure stepped onto the field of battle. Sesshoumaru surveyed the destruction and met every gaze. Holding hers, he bowed.
And the silence changed to awe as four battered warriors stood a little taller.
They’d won. And it mattered.
