At the end of her life, warm in bed with her wrinkled, age-spotted hands folded neatly atop the blanket, Kagome realized two things:
First, that she’d never mastered the art of sewing a clean hem. She eyed the crooked stitches that ran the length of Inuyasha’s juban cuff and sighed.
The second was that even after seventy years Sesshomaru remained a mystery. His piercing golden eyes appeared cold, yet when her last night arrived he stayed unwaveringly at her side.
As Inuyasha slept he asked her softly, “Do you fear death, Miko?”
She gazed at him and smiled. “Not anymore.”
