Minor Adjustments
Sesshomaru placed Kagome on the blanket he had lain on the ground and opened up the picnic basket.
“I gave Ichiro and Daichi my businesses in America,” Sesshomaru said, not wasting any time with his news.
“What?!” Kagome exclaimed as she accepted the sandwich Sesshomaru handed to her.
“You were right: I don’t need all these companies I own, so I’m going to sell about half of them.”
“You’re not doing this because of our talk this morning, are you? Because that’s not the point I was trying to make. I just want you to relax more and enjoy life. You can’t if you’re working all the time.”
“It made me realize there are more important things in life than ultimate power.” Sesshomaru reached out and placed his hand on Kagome’s cheek.
“Are you sure about this?”
“More sure than any other decisions I’ve made in the past. Though, I am starting to regret offering Inuyasha and Koga equal partnership in my remaining companies.”
“You gave them equal partnership?” Kagome replied, shock evident on her face. She reached out and placed her hand on Sesshomaru’s forehead. “Are you feeling okay?”
“Yes,” Sesshomaru replied, annoyance evident in his voice at her response and gesture.
“Wow.”

After they ate, Sesshomaru and Kagome watched the sun set and then laid down on the blanket, Kagome’s head resting on Sesshomaru’s chest as they stared at the stars. They laid there for a while in silence, enjoying the presence and closeness of each other. Kagome shifted a bit to relive the pressure on her right arm, which had gone numb, when Sesshomaru asked, broking the silence, “Can I sleep in your bed tonight?”
“No.” Kagome felt Sesshomaru sigh. “That’s part of our agreement for me staying, remember?”
“I know; I thought I would ask anyway.”
