Within the Darkness she cannot breathe. Her lips open and close, gasping for the sweet air to fill her lungs. Panic settles deep inside, driving the desire to live further.

Within the darkness she cannot see. She cannot see what lurks around her. In the darkness she cannot see him smirk. She cannot see all the monsters that wish to extinguish the light that resides in her soul.

Within the darkness she is nothing. There is nothing here for her. The darkness is not meant for those with a light so bright. Anything she seeks here will not become hers without the sacrifice of her light, her life, her purity.

Within the darkness he whispers in her ear. The silky voice sends shivers down her spine. It is cold, his words harsh and cruel. In his words she sees the truth of the darkness.

“To gain you must sacrifice. You must sacrifice yourself to the darkness if you wish to retrieve what you need.”

Within the darkness she screams. Her screams disrupt the heavy silence that settled here millenniums before. The monsters that lurk cover their ears, not wishing to here the pleads.

Within the darkness she knows she losing. It is not hard to realize, it isn’t. Not when she is so bright that the monsters shield their eyes instead of going to it.

Within the darkness she loses. It is too late, the darkness has already claimed her light. She can no longer escape the beasts that lurk here, the beast that lurks behind her.

She bows her head, fighting back tears. “I give in,” she says, the words almost becoming stuck in her throat. She does not want to give in to the darkness; she wishes to keep her light, her life, her purity.

“Good girl,” the beast whispers. “Do not fear, even if I am a monster I hold to a promise.”

Within the darkness she knows her nightmare is now her reality. Her worst nightmare has become real and she helped it along. It started with his death and now it has come to fruition by her sacrifice. She knows from this nightmare will not be one she wakes from.

Within the darkness everything of hers is stolen. Her light, her life, her purity and her hope. She knows the deal she has made is one she cannot escape from. She has promised herself to the monster so that the one she loves can live again.

She can see something swirling. Curiosity sweeps over her causing her to reach out only to be pulled back by the monster behind her. She can feel the beast leaning in over her ear, cold breath spilling out over the edge of his lip.

“I want him to see that you cared enough to sacrifice yourself. I want him to feel guilty that he drove you to do this,” he says. She shudders, the hairs on the back of her neck standing up.

Within the darkness the one she loves appears before her. She can feel the tears sliding down her cheeks. She can hear the gasp that escapes her lips. She can also see the pain in his eyes.

“K-Kagome?”

She nods, to shocked to open her mouth. She is certain that he’s mad at her. It makes the tears come faster. She does not want this to be this way but as long as he can live she’ll take it.

“Kagome what’s happening?”

“We made a deal. You return to the realm of the living and she stays here with me,” the beast says. Inuyasha gasps, a confused look clouding her eyes.

“Why Kagome?” Kagome opens her mouth to speak only to be stopped by the monster.

“Because she cares. Is it not obvious?”

Inuyasha looks as if he is about to say something more but he begins to disappear. Kagome manages to slip out of the beasts grasp and run forward, trying to reach Inuyasha before he is gone forever. He is gone though, gone to a place she can never be.

Kagome sinks to her knees, sobs racking her body. She can no longer hold back the tears, she no longer wants to. The beast behind her is emotionless. He does not care but he cannot say that he enjoys her misery.

Within the darkness his steps are unanticipated. When he kneels by her side and pulls her into a comforting embrace the gasps of the monsters can be heard. She doesn’t register that it is the beast comforting her and instead buries her head in his chest. He is stiff, unsure of how to comfort someone but as a beast who does not give up, he tries his best.

Within the darkness the tears lessen. Kagome looks up into his emotionless face, her blue eyes shining and big. The beast looks into hers, his golden gaze making her feel better.

“It is time we go,” he said. Though Kagome did not know where they were going she nods. The beast pulls back and stands. He outstretches a hand to Kagome. She grabs it and he pulls her up with a forceful yank.

“What is your name?” Kagome asks. His golden gaze holds her blue eyes captive and his lips part.

“Sesshomaru, my name is Sesshomaru.” Kagome is uncertain as to whether that is his name or it was just one he came up with but she does not ask. “Let’s go,” he said, turning his back to her and walking away.

Within the darkness a light slips above the horizon.
