Kagome glared at the dog. It was bad enough she had already had a bad but she didn’t need to come home to her dog crapping on the carpet. She glared at the black terrier, her eyes filled with anger and frustration. It cowered, its’ tail drooping, his pricked ears flat against his head and his head bowed to show it respected her as its’ master. Kagome was reminded of all the times she had told Inuyasha off.

The door rang at that moment and Kagome’s already dark look turned murderous. Couldn’t the world give her a break for once? She shuffled over to the door and cracked it open to see who was there. It was one of her neighbors holding a letter and glaring. She opened the door wider and gave him her best glare, using the glares she had received from Sesshomaru years ago as an example. Most people would have been scared out of their mind but this person wasn’t, in fact he looked slightly more annoyed.

“This came to me by accident,” he said, shoving the letter into her hands. Kagome expected him to go away after that but instead he stood there, still glaring at her but with a slight hint of thought in them. She shut the door and was about to go back to scolding her dog when she noticed that the lights from the hallway were still spilling into her apartment. Evidently her neighbor didn’t understand she wanted him to leave.

Kagome threw the door open and wasn’t surprised when she found her neighbor still standing there. Realizing he wasn’t going to go away she opened the door wider for him so that he could come in.

“What do you want?” Kagome asked. The intruder inspected her tiny apartment before walking over to her dog. How dare he walk into her home and ignore her!

She was about to push him out the door when she noticed he was glaring at her dog. She stopped, a little perplexed at her neighbor’s strangeness when she realized that the dog was showing him more respect than he ever had shown to her. How dare her dog betray her!

“Mister would you please tell me what you want and leave,” she said. Her neighbor turned his attention back to her, obviously pondering over something before opening his mouth to speak. What shocked her though was what came out of his mouth.

“Miko can you not escape dogs?” he asked, a slight hint of teasing in the background. She gasped; she felt the meaning behind his words set in. Dogs; Inuyasha and Miko; her. This was obviously not Inuyasha though, Inuyasha never called her Miko, only Sesshomaru.

“Sesshomaru?” she asked. He nodded while walking towards her. His fingers pushed her chin up so that he could meet her eyes. He was glaring at her the same way he had done her dog. She didn’t glare back though; his gaze told her if she did there would be many bad things to come.

“Sesshomaru what are you doing here?” She asked. She knew Sesshomaru could probably tell that she was scared but that didn’t matter to her.

“Why do you fear me Miko?” he asked. Kagome’s eyes flicked down to the floor; she felt to odd looking into her eyes. “You never use to fear me.”

“B-Because I was an idiot back th-then. You’re a lot stronger than me and I have no weapons and I-“ Sesshomaru cut her off by placing a finger against her lip. His mouth was slightly parted as he traced the outline of her lips. Kagome tried to pull away but was held in place by his strong grasp.

“Miko are you suggesting you’ve gotten smarter?” Kagome knew he had to be joking with her now. Wait a minute, Sesshomaru making a joke? Kagome was sure that either hell froze over recently or the world was about to end because Sesshomaru didn’t joke. He didn’t even smile; he smirked when he was about to kill something but that was all.

“I-I have,” she said. Sesshomaru clucked his tongue before giving her head a sharp jerk to the side. Kagome closed her eyes, a searing pain running through her neck. She was certain she was about to die. All of sudden she felt him release her chin and step away. Kagome didn’t open her eyes though, she was didn’t want to watch her death.

After a few moments of nothing she opened one eye and found Sesshomaru petting her dog. The modern miko let out a shaky breath and placed a hand over her heart. She could feel the organ beating erratically. How she was able to barely escape death at Sesshomaru’s claws was beyond her but she was glad. She was also glad that he was paying too much attention to her dog to notice that she was breathing heavily and that she was about to faint.
