Kagome smiled softly as she urged the scruffy little dog to eat, over the course of a few days it seemed that he was more likely to beg for scraps from her plate then he was to eat the food she had bought for him.

Taking a discreet sniff of the can, she suddenly understood why the puppy wanted nothing to do with what was in the can.

Repressing the urge to gag, she plucked the bowl from its place on the floor and made her way to the trash, tossing bowl and all.

“Scruffy, we are having steak tonight!”

. . .

The woman at the pet store said it seemed completely outlandish, who would cook for their dog every day?

But Kagome could not look at her tiny companion and not worry about what they put into that disgusting meal she had been trying to feed the poor dog, he had suffered enough she decided, she would make the little creature happy, no matter what it took.

As the clerk offered little Scruffy a sample of the stores best selling food Kagome could only imagine what he was thinking.

“Foolish Human, do not think Lord Scruffy will Eat that vile kibble.”

. . .

Much later that night, Kagome was in the kitchen, a book about cooking home made dog food spread out before her.

Scruffy was looking up at her expectantly, so she scooped him up into her arms.

“I don't know Scruffy, would you like beef stew? Or this chicken dish?”

She sighed when the dog wasn't particularly excited about either. “Maybe you could just share some of my ramen tonight?”

She laughed at his disgruntled little growl, “okay then what if I make us some Dumplings?”

His head lifted arrogantly, but his wagging tail gave her all the answer she needed.
