His words had been cutting, but her look was colder - he found it almost unnatural amongst such normally open features, a crude aberation that tainted the tilt of her lips.

Nevertheless, he felt that he had been justified.

Youkai flared - and the woman was running, curls streaming behind her as she strove  towards the hanyou, Tetsaiga in hand. His brother stood frozen, unseeing, scarlet bleeding into the whites of his eyes as tremors shuddered through him.

Kagome's words were strained, almost muffled by emotion, and he caught her gaze.
