Sango had planned for weeks about how to set her best friend up with her boss. It had been quite a conundrum for her. She’d tried having Kagome join her for lunch at the office, but Sesshomaru always managed to leave before Kagome had a chance to get there. She’d attempted to have Kagome meet her at the office for one reason or another, but somehow Sesshomaru and Kagome had never met. It had been only two days since Sango had decided to give up on the prospect of Kagome and Sesshomaru hooking up, no matter how perfect she thought they would be for each other. It just wasn’t meant to happen. Then fate stepped in.
It was Saturday and Kagome and Sango were partaking in their weekly indulgence of getting a 620 calorie Mocha Ice Blended at their local coffee house. The place was busy, so Sango had left Kagome in line so she could secure a table on the patio for them. Sango had found one, luckily enough, right next to the arbor of climbing roses, and just as she was pulling out a chair none other then Sesshomaru stepped through the arbor.
“Sango,” he greeted, when he noticed her.
“Sessh--Mr. Taisho,” Sango quickly corrected herself. “Hello.”
Sesshomaru eyed her curiously; she seemed overly excited to see him.
“Are you alright?” Sesshomaru asked when it seemed apparent that she wasn’t going to stop smiling at him.
“Oh! Yeah, I’m fine,” Sango laughed nervously. “I’m just waiting for my friend.”
Sesshomaru nodded then gestured towards the doorway. “Well, I will see you Monday then.”
“Yep,” Sango agreed cheerfully.
Sesshomaru took his leave then, still wondering about Sango’s curious behavior. Sango gave a tiny squeal of delight as she pulled her chair over enough so that she could see inside the coffee shop.
“Finally,” she said to herself.
Sesshomaru stepped into the coffee house and found a place at the end of the line. He couldn’t help but notice the woman in front of him. She was dressed simply in denim skinny jeans and a white tank top, but the clothing fit her every curve. His eyes roamed over her body, starting at her black peep-toe heels and ending at her long dark locks falling over her shoulders. He found himself wishing she’d turn around. Then as if she’d heard him, she did. She looked around him towards the patio and he took the opportunity to take in her face. The first thing he noticed were her blue eyes, which met his. Something arced between them and Sesshomaru felt his heart rate speed up a little when she smiled up at him.
“Hi,” she greeted.
“Hello,” he responded.
“Could you hold my place for a second? I normally wouldn’t ask, but-”
“Of course,” Sesshomaru said instantly.
“Thanks,” she said sweetly and left the line.
Sesshomaru turned slightly so he could watch her as she walked out to the patio. She walked straight to the table that Sango sat at and Sesshomaru smirked. She was the friend Sango was waiting for. He watched as the girls chatted for a second and Sango handed her what looked like a credit card. Then the dark haired beauty turned back towards him. He quickly turned around, hoping she hadn’t noticed him watching her.
“Thanks again,” she said as she slid into the line once more.
“Sure.” Sesshomaru graced her with a rare smile, which she returned.
Deciding to throw caution into the wind, Kagome introduced herself, “I’m Kagome.”
“Sesshomaru,” said in kind, holding his right hand out.
Whatever had arced between them before was magnified tenfold when their skin touched.
“Oh,” Kagome gasped softly.
“Miss,” a barista said, gaining Kagome’s attention, and effectively bringing their moment to an end. “I can take your order.”
Kagome glanced up at Sesshomaru, then stepped up to the counter and placed her order, giving Sesshomaru the chance to contemplate what had just happened. Kagome turned back to him, causing him to forget what he’d been thinking about.
“It was nice to meet you Sesshomaru,” she said politely.
“Likewise,” he answered and then she was gone. Just like that.
Sesshomaru watched her walk away. Had she not felt the spark like he had? No, that was impossible. Then it hit him. She was playing hard to get, or at least making things more interesting. He smiled. It was like she knew him already. Oh he’d play her game, but by the end of the week she’d be his, in every sense of the word.
