I accidentally stumbled across a webpage put together by Mike Thorne tonight. I was looking for info on a certain wire song (I was wondering what that weird noise in the middle of 'Strange' is, for those of you who know Pink Flag at all.) I had known that Mike Thorne produced Wire's first three albums, but i had no idea he as so important to the history of so much music I love:
The first three Wire LPs (the third of which, 154, is possibly the best post punk album ever. I've said so in another post about 9 months ago, but I can't be arsed to find it.)
The first three Soft Cell LPs
pretty much everything The Bronski Beat ever put out
and if that's not enough, two of the greatest singles ever put to wax- Soft Cell's "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" and 'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry".
Did I mention he had the sixth Synclavier ever made?
So my point is that this guy is important, and you should to listen to one of the albums he produced right now. And if you're still curious, go look here for stories about making these awesome records. Here's a great quote:
