My Marble Tiger 7/8

Title: My Marble Tiger
Pairings: YooMin, past JaeChun, XiMin.
Rating: NC-17
Summary: A famous sculptor who’s lost his inspiration after being dumped meets a cheerful man who sits in a zoo and watches the tigers all day. He slowly learns how to be happy again and even falls in love. But the seemingly carefree man has a dark secret.

Warnings: Smut, Angst, Violence.

Disclaimer: The tigers belong to a Dutch zoo, DBSK belong to SM’s zoo. If I ever get my hands on them they’ll be in cages in a private zoo in my backyard (DBSK, not the tigers) or I’d set them free, they’d look great in the wild too.

Part 7: Letter

Yoochun read the note four, maybe five times. He didn’t understand, he just... didn’t understand.

He felt hurt and sad and anxious and like something was squeezing his heart very very hard, because Changmin mentioned the possibility of not coming back. But above all of that he was confused.

It took him a while to be able to analyse the information in the note rationally.

Changmin had been hiding something from him, he had figured that out a while ago. But he hadn’t thought it would be this important.

From what he understood from the note this something made Changmin feel bad about saying he loved Yoochun... it couldn’t be another lover, could it? No, he trusted Changmin and he had been with him almost every day.

Whatever it was that had been holding Changmin back, he was going to try to get rid of it now and if he wouldn’t succeed, he wouldn’t come back. Was it something dangerous? His heart clenched more at that thought.

If he wasn’t so shocked he would have sneered at the line ‘I’m sure you’ll be fine without me’. Sure, no chance in hell.

He couldn’t explain how it had happened, but only the thought of never seeing Changmin again just... he didn’t even want to think about thinking about it, ever, that’s how he felt about that. He had been ‘fine’ without Jae, being dumped by him was nothing, nothing compared to this.

Of course Changmin wrote that he would be back at noon, that he would take Yoochun to his house, explain, and everything would be alright. But what if he wouldn’t? He very clearly mentioned that possibility.

Yoochun didn’t understand, not enough at least. He wished he did.

December 2

Hyung,

You’re right, I didn’t tell you everything in my last letter, I can never
hide things from you.
Actually I’m not so sure anymore that I’ll work it out with Junsu.
He scares me hyung, I thought he loved me, didn’t he say he loved
me? He even told you. He did, didn’t he? I don’t understand, sometimes
he hits me and he doesn’t even tell me why.
He told me I had to quit college and come to work with him. I didn’t
want to, but he said he would leave me if I wouldn’t.
Why would he do that?
I love him, I thought he loved me, shouldn’t he listen to what I want too?
He told us he works at a bar, but it’s not a normal bar. The customers
touch me all the time and when I tell them to stop Junsu scolds me.
I don’t like it, I want to study again. And how am I ever going to surpass
you if I don’t?
Junsu doesn’t want me to call you and he doesn’t know I’m writing this
letter, but I think he wouldn’t allow it.
What should I do hyung?

I miss you,

Changmin

===============================================

Yoochun was still sitting on his bed. It was 10 a.m. now. He remembered how amazing the sex had been yesterday. He now knew why Changmin had wanted it to be, he had known he might not get a chance to be with Yoochun ever again.

That’s what Yoochun was convinced of, that if Changmin wouldn’t come back it would be because he didn’t have a chance to, wouldn’t be able to, that something or someone beyond his power would keep him away, not that he wouldn’t want to.

Changmin wrote he loved him. Under normal circumstances that would have made Yoochun feel relieved and happy, now it hurt a bit.

If Changmin loved him - which Yoochun believed by the way, even when Changmin said he couldn’t say it he had felt it - it would have been okay to just tell him what was wrong. They could have worked it out together.

11 a.m. Yoochun was fidgeting. He had put on some boxers. His body was still sticky, but he didn’t want to take a shower. What if he wouldn’t hear Changmin coming through the door?

He remembered falling asleep on top of Changmin yesterday, still inside him and with Changmin’s come between their bodies. He wondered how Changmin had managed to wiggle out from under him without waking him up.

Maybe he’d even left right away, without sleeping first. Yoochun could have slept in an empty bed for an entire night without noticing.

Noon. Yoochun was starting to feel a bit hungry, he ignored it. He had taken his blanket and pillow to the hallway, where he sat on them, staring at the door.

Somewhere deep inside he realised he looked a bit pathetic. If Changmin walked in now, acting like nothing had happened, he would probably laugh at him. Oh, Yoochun wanted to hear Changmin’s laugh, see his smile, see him.

He wasn’t usually this dependant. He’d gone for almost entire days without seeing Changmin before. But back then he'd known where Changmin was - at the zoo, probably even thinking about him - and that he would see him in the evening.

He wasn’t sure about seeing Changmin again today, that made waiting a million times harder.

1 p.m. Changmin was late. Yes, he was just late. Maybe he’d wanted to pick up some food on the way back. If Changmin was spending time like that there was no harm in Yoochun stealing a few seconds.

He ran to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of water and returned to his spot. He had been planning to get some food too, but he doubted he would get it down.

2 p.m. Changmin hadn’t exactly specified if he would be back here, or back at the zoo, which was where they spent their time together if Yoochun wasn’t working on a statue.

He wasn’t working on a statue anymore. Andromeda was standing in his studio, her hands tied to the rock behind her. She was looking up, like she was expecting a flying hero any time now.

Her expression was hopeful, just that, no trace of worry. Yoochun had tried his very best to make it so that Changmin would never get sad by looking at it.

Yoochun thought that his own expression must look something like that now, but with the worry, the amount of worry growing with every passing second, replacing the hope.

He couldn’t wait at two places at the same time. He was sure that if Changmin wouldn’t find him at the zoo he would come here.

3 p.m. Yoochun had to pee, he couldn’t hold it any longer, he ran to the toilet.

When he was closing his pants he thought he heard a door closing.

His heart sped up until it was beating at least 4 times faster as he sprinted back.

Nothing, it had just been his imagination.

4, 5, 6 p.m. Yoochun was starting to think about the parts of the note he had avoided thinking about. The parts where Changmin told him to forget him, not to look for him, to move on.

Why?

Just...

Why?

It wasn’t because Changmin wanted to forget Yoochun. He wrote: ‘just know that I’ll never forget you’ - that line would cause Yoochun to not forget about Changmin for at least five lifetimes.

So why would Changmin want him to forget? Changmin wasn’t going to... die... was he? This thing wouldn’t be that dangerous, would it? No, he had to stop thinking about that possibility, that would not help his emotional state.

7 p.m. Changmin didn’t want him to look for him...

8 p.m. He was definitely going to look for him anyway and not give up until he’d found him. He still hadn’t thought of one good reason why he shouldn’t.

Ignoring something that Changmin had said was a bad thing, but doing nothing to get him back was worse. And maybe Changmin secretly wanted Yoochun to come after him. Yoochun hoped that was true.

Changmin wasn’t coming back. A few hours before the actual end of the day Yoochun felt his last hope die.

He was angry at himself for wasting an entire day he could have spent searching. But as much as he wanted to, he knew that blindly running into the night now, screaming Changmin’s name, was not going to help.

So with much difficulty he managed to eat something, finally take a shower and get his blanket and pillow back on the bed.

After that he just lay on it, staring at the ceiling. He needed a plan and since there was no way he would be able to sleep tonight this was the best time to come up with one.

He was going to find Changmin’s house. He didn’t think Changmin would be there, but it seemed like a good way to start, the only way actually.

He needed clues. What had Changmin told him that could help with this?

The next day he had a vague idea of where to go. Changmin lived close to he park where his Hermes stood, he passed the statue on his way to the zoo, so he lived on the other side of the park.

There were lots of apartment buildings, it didn’t discourage Yoochun. He was just going to ask everyone he saw if they knew a Changmin... Changmin, he didn’t even know his family name.

Many people thought it was a stupid question, some looked at him like they thought he was some kind of scary stalker and a few actually thought about it before saying they didn’t and they were sorry.

At doors Yoochun called random residents and asked them. Sometimes he could enter a building and then he walked around in it, not even sure what exactly he was hoping to achieve by doing that. He knew that suddenly bumping into Changmin in a hallway was not going to happen.

It was getting late and harder to ignore the pain in his feet from running around all day, he was also looking a lot less energetic than he had in the morning, his head hanging down, staring at the floor.

That’s why he almost missed it, but something made him look up to inspect the hallway he was standing in now. His heart almost jumped out of his chest.

He walked closer and stared at the door. Changmin hadn’t exaggerated, it was hideous, striped purple and green. This had to be it, the door from the story of the fighting couple, it had to.

He looked left and right and then chose the door on the left, he rang de doorbell.

When nothing happened for twenty seconds, half a minute, a minute, he was starting to think this was the right door, Changmin probably wouldn't be home.

He was wondering how he could get the landlord to open the door for him, he didn’t look enough like Changmin to pass for his brother and he didn’t know how much the man knew about Changmin anyway.

But then the door opened slowly.

For a moment Yoochun hoped that Changmin would suddenly be standing in front of him and he felt disappointed when an old lady appeared.

This proved that the door to the right of the striped one had to be Changmin’s though, and he felt like sprinting there immediately and try that one, but that would be too rude, the lady looked up at him expectantly.

“Um..” Yoochun said.

“What’s wrong? A handsome young man like you shouldn’t walk around with such a worried expression. Don’t waste your youth.”

“Um.. do you maybe know if a Changmin lives over there?” Yoochun pointed to the right.

“Ah yes, the Shim boy, a lovely young man, are you a friend?”

“I.. yes. I haven’t seen him in a while and I can’t contact him so I got a bit worried.”

She smiled.

“I’m glad he’s got such a considerate friend now, I’ve been worried about that boy you know, losing his family so early and then that scary violent boyfriend he had. Are they still together?”

Yoochun just stared at her.

Yes, he knew there had been a boyfriend, but Changmin had left out the scary violent part.

“Oh, you probably don’t want to gossip about his private life, I understand,” the lady continued, “I have a key to his house somewhere, he lets me take care of his plants because I love gardening so much. Do you want to check inside? Maybe he’s hurt again, the poor boy.” She kept mumbling while she went through a drawer to look for the key, not waiting for Yoochun’s response. Yoochun barely caught what she said: “I bet that horrible man had something to do with it, every time, I may be old, but I’m not blind.”

Yoochun stopped listening, and breathing. Hurt... Changmin... violent boyfriend.

“Here.” The lady pushed a key into his hand. “I’d like to get it back, but go take care of your friend now.”

Yoochun snapped out of it. He bowed, thanked the lady and walked to Changmin’s door.

He rang de doorbell first, but almost immediately pushed the key in the lock and opened the door. The apartment was dark, and small.

There was a little hallway, a combined kitchen and living room and one bedroom and bathroom.

Yoochun didn’t feel bad about walking around in Changmin’s house without permission. He felt it was really important to find him now.

The apartment was tidy and almost empty, Changmin didn’t have many possessions. That’s why the box on the table immediately caught his attention. It was opened and there seemed to be letters inside, neatly folded.

One letter was lying next to the box, open, like Changmin had read it right before leaving. Yoochun picked it up.

The handwriting looked like someone had wrote this in a hurry, or in a very emotional state.

Changmin,

I’m writing this at the airport. I’m coming back. I bought a ticket right after
I read your letter.
I know I will arrive before this letter reaches you, but I’m sending it anyway,
because I can’t stand not being able to contact you. Writing letters was
a stupid idea, I don’t even have your e-mail address and I don’t dare to call
you in case Junsu picks up. He’d be angry at you for telling me and I really
don’t want him to do anything to you anymore.
Changmin, what Junsu is doing is unforgivable. I’m so sorry I wasn’t there
to stop him, to protect you. I should never have left, what a fool I was for
trusting him.
Not that I think that you’re a fool, you were in love, I understand. But don’t
love him anymore Changmin. He doesn’t deserve it, he doesn’t deserve you,
I would almost go as far as to say he doesn’t deserve to live, but I don’t
like violence.

The trembling of Yoochun’s hands got too bad to be able to read, so he had to put the letter down on the table again.

And it’s worse enough that he hurts you and is probably planning to
force you into prostitution (because that’s what he’s doing Changmin),
but he takes away your dream as well. It makes me so angry.
Remember that when you were little I used to call you a strong little tiger?
You still are, without the ‘little’. You’re strong Changmin, and beautiful
and always happy and smiling your amazing smile. I don’t want you to lose
those qualities and I want you to give yourself only to someone who truly
deserves you. I’m sure you can find new love, real love, don’t give up on it.
I’m coming for you and I’ll make sure Junsu never comes near you again,
please don’t feel sad about that. I know that you’re smart enough to
understand that Junsu is wrong, even if your heart has been telling you
otherwise up till now.
I’ll stop writing now because I can board my plain soon.

I love you, my precious little brother,

Yunho
