A couple of weeks ago I saw the "World's Best Commercials 2009" showing at the
Bytowne. I thought I'd posted more about this event in the past but I can only find a
couple of
posts. Anyway, although an ad doesn't have to be funny to be good, funny ads were practically a staple of previous years' showings, while this year it seemed like only half of them were. One ad campaign made me feel bad for laughing at it, because they play a prank on someone, then put up on the screen, "when you live with alzheimer's your mind plays tricks on you every day". So then I'm like, "aww, I laughed at a commercial about Alzheimer's". :( (first ad
here)
The big winner (or so I assume since it was the last campaign showed) was Hulu. I had seen the ad with Alec Baldwin, but not the ones with Seth MacFarlane and Denis Leary. Anyway, here are the ads that were memorable to me.
Squares (Axe)House of Cards (Shelter)Evolution of Technology (SATURN)Timesculpture (Toshiba)Civil War (ebay)Light Show (Guiness) (Amusing because it reminded me of the
lightswitch rave)
Waterslide (Barclay card) (While searching I found this
rollercoaster version which is pretty cool)
Jon Stewart making fun of Glenn Beck Thursday before last was pretty good, but his take on
ChatRoulette is one of the funniest things I've seen all year. If you haven't heard of ChatRoulette, or even if you have,
this is a good introduction video, including some statistics that the creator compiled. There are also some fun videos around the net, like the self-taught piano player named Merton who's started
playing to
people. (some said he looks like
Ben Folds)
