krk gave me a copy of
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for Christmas, and I watched it this week. It was cool and everything, but I was slightly distracted by the fact that I've been to the hotel in the movie. A lot of it was filmed at
The Standard hotel in downtown LA. I didn't recognise it at first since the room decor was different from my room, and it was all movie angles and lighting, but their trademark upside-down name can be clearly seen in
this shot.
I was going to post about the hotel anyway. In reviews it's been described as "funky", "eclectic", "trendy", and "alternative". Personally, I found the stick figures they use amusing. Although my digital camera had broken, I took some pictures with my
cell phone.
Incidentally, someone might have mentioned (while I was there) that the movie was filmed at the hotel, but I didn't remember the title.
I finally got around to watching all of
Ebichu this week. As you can see by the release schedule there, one group stopped subbing it, and another picked it up after a year. So I'd seen almost half, but hadn't seen the rest up until now. If you're not familiar with it, it's sort of a hamster sex comedy. (The sex part refers to the owner, not the hamster) Mitsuishi Kotono, the voice of Ebichu, was
reading the manga while doing the voice of Misato in Evangelion. She showed the manga to others and Gainax decided to animate it. I made a short video with the show several years ago, which someone seems to have
duplicated on YouTube. :)
Anyway, I just wanted to say that
episode 14 is still the best. (You need a YouTube account to claim that you're mature enough to watch it via that link) The parts from 04:00 - 06:00 on the YouTube link make me laugh so much.
I finally got around to looking at all of the Hellø Fairy
poll results. Since only four segments got voted down, I'm not going to bother making another edit. Oh well. :)
Voted down:
- A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
- Blipvert (Zik Zak advertisement)
- Wear my hat
- "Tears, Tears, and More Tears"
Tie:
- Metal Gear Solid 2 (Opening Infiltration)
Unanimous "yes" vote: (ignoring abstainers)
- Azumanga Daioh opening parody (with bloodspray)
- "I drank some very good beer"
It's really not very exciting, but here's the first sentence of the first (public) post of each month this year:
January:
A mother's wish: "For some parents with a concern for their child's future, a dabbling in cocaine is a far more digestible alternative.
February: First off... I'm a sheep baa baa baa.
March: Not an especially good month for humour, but oh well.
April: I know April Fools Day is over, but I played a prank at work today.
May: It's like that annoying email you get, except it doesn't fill up your inbox.
June: So I guess I'll write something about Anime North before I forget everything. :P
July: First, about the new icon... I didn't hate the movie, but the idea of that icon amused me enough to make it. [
reference]
August: I guess I should get the video ready to upload one o' these days.
September: So it's a video I edited earlier this year, and stuff.
October: Sarara-Max says: D-D-D-Download this now...now!
November: First off,
best pumpkin ever. ;)
December:
Courtesy is dead.
