After toying with the idea of lasik for a while, esp much so after seeing nothing but shadows while snorkelling in perth + crashing into a rock...i finally went to do it last thurs!
Went to Dr.Julian-Theng frm eagle-eye center (yes, wad a name!) for a pre-lasik consultation first. Found out that my eye pressure was on the high side...and after a test for a possibility of glaucoma, which thankfully turned out negative, the high pressure was read as a "falsely high" reading, due to my thicker than normal cornea.
And so a week later, i was all set for bladeless lasik! The procedure was painless - the waiting was more unbearable than the actual operation. Dr Theng is v good though, and v reassuring. After putting all the anasthetic eyedrops, i went into the surgery room for the lasik to be done.
Some tape was used to tape the eyebrows, and a clip was used to hold the eyelids up. Surprisingly wasnt painful, considering my small eyes..then a tube like thing (which i later learnt was a type of suction used to hold the eye in place for the laser) was put over my right eye. Some pressure felt, a little uncomfy, but pretty much painless. So i was told to look at the blinking green light, and a few seconds later, Dr Theng counted down the timing (which i think was abt 8s) and somehow the flap was cut already.. It actually differed from what i have heard previously, since i could not feel any flap being cut.
Then another machine was used to cut the cornea..which lasted for another few seconds. The doc then "brushed" the eye, put some lubricating liquid, placed a protective contact lens over, and ta-dah, one eye was done! Repeated the entire process on my left eye, except that apparently my left eye is even smaller than my small right eye, and so the doc took longer to place the tube in. sigh.
So, both eyes were done in under 10 mins....and that's like near 320 bucks a min?? But prob the best spent money ever. heh. Immediately after the surgery, the doc asked me to tell the time on the clock, and after checking my eyes, he asked how i felt. My first reply? "Er, you look bigger". haha. i think he was v amused and said it was prob because of the contact lens.
After the surgery, its super mafan. Can't get tap water in my eyes for the next 1 week (to be safe), so washing of hair and face is a big problem, and in order to prevent rubbing of eyes, i have to wear protective goggles to sleep every night. Also, there are the eye drops which you have to religiously put every 15 min and 3 hours. Vision was blurry for first two days, and then gets better with each day.
Went for my second post-op consulation today, and had my eyesight checked..apparently its at 6/6 alr! woohoo!
Except that i get tired easily, and occasionally my eye feels somewhat irritated, like as if dirt went inside. At night, i still see halos and starbursts, which is supposed to get better over time. I actually think its quite pretty...its like looking at the world through a camera with a starburst filter!
Looks somewhat like that, but not so big and pronouced..
heh. very pretty.
And during the first post-op consultation the doc actually gave me a framed pix of me in the op room! haha.
i think his theory is that its a life changing moment, so he wants us to keep a memento of it.
so nice! i think a doc who loves life is a doc that can be trusted =)
Somehow i thave that same theory when i went sky diving in dec, the kiwi sky divers are so passionate, you feel nothing will go wrong when you are with them, simply because their passion is so infectious. heh. Hopefully i can have that same level of passion in my job. And just so very nice, our founder always say: If you love life, it loves you. If you don't, it doesn't.
and yay! 6/6 vision! can go sky diving without specs already! woohoo!
But though lasik "cured" my of my short-sightedness, it obviously can't cure me of my clumsiness.
On the 4th day after lasik, i took my first trip out of the house (other than for the consultations), and i kindaf missed a step and fell down the stairs. haha. sheesh. thankfully, i was ok, except for an uncomfy feeling on my ankle. Once again, i have to thank my basketball reflexes! else i duno wad other injuries i may have sustained. =P
