Stone Soup (can be vegetarian or vegan)

Stone soup is the poor man's friend. It's a way to use up those extra bits and pieces of things that don't quite make a meal. Stone soup is an excellent way to get rid of some things that can't be used alone or little bits of foods that you couldn't use otherwise. It's a way to hide foods you don't like very much and a way to get rid of bits of leftover meals in the fridge. It is also a good way for friends to get together and share a meal. You can invite others over and ask them to bring some leftover ingredients with them. Then they can all take some of the finished soup home after everyone shares the meal together.

Stone soup is never the same twice because the ingredients are always different based on what you have on hand. Just put a pot of water on the stove, toss in a little of this and a little of that, sprinkle in some herbs and salt, and simmer until it is ready.

Here are some great ingredients to add to stone soup:

-leftovers such as lasagna, meat, pastas, etc.
-fresh, frozen, or dried vegetables
-rice
-tomato sauce/soup
-cheese
-milk/cream
-meat bones (add flavor)
-noodles
-beans/lentils
-whole grains
-tortilla chip crumbs
-salsa
-dried and crumbled bread crusts
-diced lunch meat
-bacon bits

The stone is optional.
