What kind of idea? A product or a script? I don't know, but I'm just nosy

Any written work (like a script, song, book, computer code, whatever) has an automatic copyright term from the time of creation until I think 96 years. so you're set there. if it's an actual invention, you need a patent, and i dont know much about those. but copyright-wise, you don't really need to do anything, they've made it assumed now.
