ADMINISTRATION BAFFLED BY LACK OF ATTENDANCE
Rockville, MD.
Schools around Montgomery County have been noticing a peculiar trend. It seems as though, in the two half days before spring break, there have been many students absent from school.
At Thomas S. Wootton High School, a blue ribbon school, one administrator was heard saying that he "just doesn't get it. I mean, school is in session. There are videos being played in 82% of our classrooms. These students should still be here, learning."
One theory is that ending the 3rd grading quarter two days before the break was not the best move on the super-intendant's part. When asked to comment, Dr. Jerry Weast, Montgomery COunty's school super-intendant, crawled under his desk, put his finger between his lips, blew out, and repeated "I'm only three and a half years old."
Montgomery County Public Schools has released the 2004-2005 schedule, and there are several innovations. Most noticeably, there are three days of school after final exams in June. An official explained that they are there to "prepare students for the following year's Maryland High School Assessment Tests. It's never to early to start preparing for such an important exam."
