This had better make it to Broadway...

As Les Miserables has resulted in me obsessively watching youtube videos and checking up on what some of my favourite musical theatre performers have been up to, I tried the Anthony Warlow forum to see what Australia's best has been up to since Phantom ended.

The answer, it seems, is a lot! He's been in A Little Night Music and returned to Pirates of Penzance, something I should order on DVD one of these days, but most interestingly he'll be in a new musical version of Doctor Zhivago opening in February. I'll be honest and say that while I've heard the new before I have never read the book or seen the movie. What excites me about this project is the following:

1) It's a NEW musical. As in Warlow won't be taking on a role but actually creating it and I can think of few people who deserve a shot at creating a role more than him.

2) The crew sound pretty awesome with the woman behind The Secret Garden doing the music. Since I have the Quast and Warlow version of Lily's Eyes on repeat sometimes, that's very exciting and bodes well for the musical side.

and of course 3) WARLOW!

I've been a fan of Warlow since I got my hands on the Jekyll and Hyde recording and fell in love with his gorgeous baritone. Until David Thaxton came along Warlow was my Enjolras (in voice anyway since there aren't a lot of videos floating around) and I even braved the terrible Valjean on the complete symphonic recording for him. I'm still annoyed that there's no recording of him as The Phantom as Warlow is my angel of music and I was bitterly disappointed that I just don't have the money to fly to Australia to see him.

So yes this news is fantastic to my ears, especially because Doctor Zhivago might end up transferring to Broadway and Warlow with it! I've been dying for him to make it to North America but so far no luck. Believe me if this makes it to New York I will be the first to buy a ticket and I'll hop a bus and make my first trip to the Big Apple. Even if it doesn't this hopefully will result in a cast recording and that's something.

I'll be over here crossing my fingers and hoping that the musical is awesome and that it's a huge success. Maybe sometime in 2011 or 2012 it will be Broadway bound...
