Last night I found a 2007 Writer's Market in the basement. It was water damaged because it's been sitting in a box on the basement floor the past 6 years.

It was a reminder of the years I've wasted NOT writing. But when I try to write these days it all makes me cry.

Depending on where the journaling ends up, sometimes I cry. Sometimes I don't.

I'm just all over the place! lol

Only when it doesn't seem to help effect any change. Or when I'm sitting in public. :)

When I was in 12th grade, I got some wonderful advice from my English teacher and friend Deb Dempsey. (Best teacher I ever had; such a shame she retired before my cousin Kate, who is a talented writer, got to learn from her.) Anyway, I was struggling with my college essay. It made my cry to write it. I told Deb this and she said, "You are too close to the experience, too close to your material. You need to find some distance. Write about something else for a while." I did, and what do you know, but that "write about something else" became my college essay and got me into Sarah Lawrence and Skidmore, among others. (Not Smith, where I ended up going...they had pretentious questions, and I wrote a satiric essay.)
