A Brief Summary of Why Everyone Needs to Watch Doc Martin Right Now
Ok, so the good people at Netflix recced this show for me and it is totally fabulous. I'm rather disappointed in the internet for not telling me about it sooner. It is a British dramady about a curmudgeonly doctor. He was a brilliant surgeon until he developed a fear of blood and now is the GP in a remote little village. He has a terrible secretary who he is not allowed to fire because all the villagers will be mad at him, and he is constantly stalked by a scruffy dog. There are wacky plumbers, a neurotic cop who is depressed that he doesn't have a girlfriend, and a dude who thinks that he lives with a six foot red squirrel.
The only reason I can think of that everybody doesn't already know and love this show is because it is not particularly slashy. Doc Martin is not a handsome guy. But he's so fantastically deadpan!
"Your son is highly contagious. He has to stay home from school."
"Well I have to work!"
"What about the boy's father?"
"Oh yes, I'm sure if I call him and tell him it's impetigo he'll drop his girlfriend, fly back from Gloucester and give our marriage another shot!"
"So that works out then."
