Planets!
Ok, so reading the news during class, and they have discovered extrasolar planets (outside our solar system). This is cool for multiple reasons, the dorkiest of which is that they are orbiting a star in the Pegasus system. The ones we can see are huge gas giants, but there are plausibly other, smaller, potentially water having planets nearer the star (like in our solar system). These planets are younger than Earth by like way a lot, but there could still be speeded up evolution there that has produced a race of Space Vampires. You never know.
