[He's sitting on top of one of the empty husks of buildings, looking over the streets. Something about him has changed a little- a quiet sadness where there might have been stony indifference before. His face has dirt streaks, and the uniform he wears is covered in dried blood

[Armand looks like he's gotten a nice tan, if Romulus happened to have noticed how pale he was before the fires. Even if he hasn't, there is occasionally the dangerous flash of fangs behind his lips as he speaks, even if his words are kind enough.] I have been doing a decent amount of hunting in the wastes. I have some metal traps left from that event some time back, which I would be glad to loan.

As long as I stay away from any of the larger patches of fire, I would be glad to hunt with you, and I can carry back far more than I look like I could on my own.

[Watch out a bit, Armand, this werewolf is not particularly fond of your kind.

But either he doesn't notice or doesn't care at this point, and nods quietly, looking into the PCD.]

I have hunted there before as well, though I preferred the trees inside the city walls. Either way, I appreciate the offer to help. Two hunters is always more efficient than one.

[Armand will just laugh when he find out that at least somewhere, the legend is true. For now he has no idea.]

Of course. And the creatures in the wastes are not exactly deer.

[More to himself than to Rome he says,] I'll need to dig the traps out of the ash and rubble....

I can get the traps for you when they are needed. When do you plan on making this trip hunting?

Probably in the next day or two. The food around here is scarce- people are already going hungry. If we can fell several large beasts, it should be enough for one trip.

I prefer to hunt at night, but you can pick up the traps from the Townhouse- or what's left of it- in the Southwest quarter at any time. There is a burnt wardrobe in the front room. I'll clear a path and put the traps in there. Don't worry, there is no roof over that area to collapse on you.

I can join you when the sun sets, if you will hunt then.

If not, I would be glad to bring what I can get.

We are certainly able to hunt at night.

May I ask why?

[Armand pauses a minute, uncertain. His instincts told him danger.] Is there a reason you ask?

[He sighed,] Oh, if Lestat is living with a slayer and telling any who ask...

I am a vampire. [He didn't look entirely happy about telling, but it was better than making up lies. He had no clue who he was contending with.]

[His lip curled subconsciously, showing his teeth. Ordinarily, Rome is the perfect soldier- emotionless, quiet, constantly awaiting orders. But vampires- he doesn't like them. It's more than just a conflict of breeds- as a soldier, he'd had to kill several of the damned things who were preying on his civilians. He'd never met one he liked.

With a small amount of difficulty, he keeps control over himself and takes a deep breath.]

I do not think I will accept your assistance at this time.

... [Well, this is a first. People have run scared of him before, but this seemed to be outright distaste.]

[There's no reason to lie. But he says it calmly, without the anger that was there before.]

The last thing that Adstringendum needs is more fighting. And I do not trust you.

[He sighs heavily.]

I do not want to fight. I want to help. [He looks tired, and for a moment the look in his eyes makes him look quite a bit older than 17.] We will both be hunting for the same purpose.

[Rome's jaw sets and he glances aside for a moment, huffing out a short breath. He couldn't deny that if he was telling the truth, then Armand could be a valuable asset. If. Which he more than likely wasn't.]

You are my enemy, if you are no one else's. However, that should not prevent you from helping to feed others if you are genuine. [He looks back to the screen.] Come, if you like, but do not count us allies. I will leave at sunset.

I have been giving away meat since I have arrived. I'll return with extra. With my books burnt it is not as if I have much more to spend my time on.

[He sighs again at himself. Of course he would be met with plenty of ill favour in a place where being a vampire was not strange enough to warrant complete secrecy.]

Might I at least know why I'm your enemy?

In my world, vampires seek only to prey on innocent civilians and injured wolves. It was my and the rest of the Lycan division's job to apprehend them for the government.

[He takes a deep breath.]

I know that our worlds may be different, but my opinion remains the same. I have seen your kind do terrible things- I would not soon forget it just because of one act of selflessness.
