I have discovered that the training I'm supposed to be doing on Monday isn't in Ipswich, it's in Ilford.
This means getting the quarter-to-seven train from Norwich, changing at Stratford or somewhere, and rolling into Seven Kings. No hardship really, and a train journey in the morning, given that I've booked a seat, can be quite pleasant. I no longer efar early starts the way I used to when I was 19...
I'm supposed to be training some guys from the Ilford and the Herts offices how to use the Polopoly Content Management System for their newspaper websites. I don't know what the facilities will be like in the boardroom, so I've got a couple of plans. If there are a set of networked PCs, the guys have logins so I can give them hands on training. If there are no PCs and just a Powerbeam, plug in laptop and give a demonstration. No PCs and no Powerbeam means either (a) finding a powerbeam from somewhere or (b) going through the handout (no effing chance). All eventualities are quite easy to deal with.
When I was teaching I learned to prep training for a number of different outcomes. Some classrooms would have better facilities than others, and some kids would work/learn faster than others too. This means that you need to keep a number of things in hand 'just in case'. When training staff in Aviva, I often had to deal with variously-equipped training rooms, and got into the habit of taking thumb-drives, laptops, powerbeams, printed materials and so forth with me everywhere I went.
I think it will go well, the guys haven't seen Polopoly before, and by the end of the day I'd like them to feel confident about using it to populate and maintain a newspaper website, or at the very least be able to have a crack at editing an existing one.
Anyhoo, pizza this evening. And sleep.
