in further thinking on my entry last night, i want to comment a bit on organized religion. i don't care for it. i know that's blunt, but it's how i feel. i do believe that some of the bible or the quran or buddhist texts or whatever have some merit to them. jesus' words, his exact teachings, i think contain a lot of truth. i think, with his limited understanding (which isn't his fault, just the time he was born in) he was touching on universal truths that become apparent when you contemplate the universe and our place within it. i think that these texts are useful as tools and as jumping off points for personal growth, but most importantly as metaphors. the problem arises when they are co-opted by those who have a desire for personal gain and are then implemented not as a primer to greater understanding that can be accomplished on one's own but instead held as dogma. i believe that is the greatest fault with organized religion.
