Question about training programs
Hi everyone, I'm a new member and a new dog owner. We recently added Frieda, a half-German shepherd, half-Siberian husky puppy, to our family. She is just over 9 weeks old right now (gratuitous puppy pic below).
I have no experience raising dogs (although I have been learning a LOT over the past couple of weeks) and my husband hasn't had puppies since he was a kid. So we are leaning towards a formal obedience class for her. But I have all kinds of questions about choosing a program.
1. How old should she be to start? Do we need to wait until she's fully vaccinated?
2. Should we go for a group class or one-on-one training? I have heard that puppies need socialization and she doesn't have any other dogs to play with here. But then I just read that group training is a bad idea for dogs without any prior training. I'm confused!
3. How much should I expect to pay?
4. Finally, is there anything I should specifically seek out in a trainer, or anything that's a red flag?
