Surprise milestone with Oliver last night. After settling the other four dogs to bed with me, I was playing on the iPad when I heard this god awful howl of sadness, from Oliver, who had been set up in the foyer with food, water and a pillow and towel for the night. Simon and Faith flew off the bed, Wes started barking, it was a scene. After five minutes everyone settled down and came back to bed. Ten minutes later - the same thing. Only this time, after Faith and Simon came back to bed, Oliver had followed them and was standing in the bedroom door. After Simon and Faith were back up on the bed, Oliver came over and sat next to the bed, looking up at me. He let me pet him and even take off his collar and leash. When that was done, he still hadn't run away. I patted the bed and asked if he wanted to come up, and he immediately sprang up onto the bed and settled next to me. He slept with us all night. This morning he was kind of stand-offish - he wouldn't eat in the kitchen with the other dogs - but then came and sat with us on the sofa and let me pet him. Just a minute ago, when I started this post, he was at my feet and and put his front paws on my knee. He then let me pick him up and settle him on my lap. Granted, that didn't last long, because he is a tall gangly lad and couldn't get comfortable, but he is now settled at my feet under the computer desk.
Kinda cool.
