Okay,back in June wellowneddid this thing,where if we asked nicely,she would come with five words, and then we(the people who asked for it)Would explain what they mean to us, personally.Unfortunately,I haven't had a chance to post this here, until now;so without any further delay.I will.
The words are Slash,California,black,family and love.I will now explain what they mean to me.
Slash:A whole genre of fanfiction, that I would've never discovered, if it hadn't have been for The O.C.I've really found it to be, both rather cool and creative,when you take established characters and play with their sexual orentation;because it raises all sorts of questions(at least in my mind)about perceptions,relationships and gender roles.As well as, leaving me to ponder,if perhaps a particular character was meant originally,to be either gay or straight, or even, to be male or female.
California: To me, represents and symbolizes so many different things.It's the state,that I thank God, my predominately Oklahoman and TexArkanan relations,wasn't forced to migrate to,during the Dustbowl;unlike so many of other members of their families,friends and neighbors;because I doubt that the Cannons',Burnettes',Goodsons'Shepherds'and Griffiths',would have been able to endure the bigotry,starvation wages and sheer misery,that so many others,found instead of the land of milk and honey.
It is also,one of my great-great-grandmother's, on my mother's side is buried;out in of all places,Compton.Because,she died outthere, on a family trip, during the early '40's;while visiting some children of her's who had moved to the Golden state;years earlier.
It's both a mythical place and a an actual geo-political feature. It's the place where people,live in and around these humungous cities, but it seems to me, don't really have any sense of being part of a community.It's the state,which nearly sucks the Colorado River, dry and where they also have to drink purified sewage, in some places.This was where writers, like John Steinbeck,Gary Soto,Amy Tan,and Mary Helen Ponce came from.Where they remember their roots, as having once been a part of both Spain and Mexico,with towns and streets with Spanish names;and do up their houses with adobe and tile.But who seem to really hate hispanics;even the ones who were born there and whose families,have lived there three generations or more.
It's the state, that helped Ronald Reagen, to first become a big movie star,then a governer and later president.It's just so many different things,so many contradictions,peoples,events and ideas, all going on and offsimultanesouly.It's just one gargantuan circus/freakshow on acid, and suffering from ADD.
Black: I will be honset about something.I am dark person,in disposition;I have a cynical side and in a lot of ways,I really do believe;that the world,is truly a vale of tears.
Family:At times,in my life family has been the other F word.But I really do believe,that your family,is what you make of it,that in this life, family is everything and that Alex Haley was quite right:Family is really,truly those who love you and who in return,you love as well.
Love:This pharse,is in my humble opinion,perhaps one of the most loaded,overused and misused words in any language.But I also believe,that love is what makes life, fit to live and that everyone,needs somebody or something, of their own, to love.And in return,to be loved by at least one person,unconditionally.Plus I also believe,that love and romance, are not the exact same things.
