The information I share is for all! Don't forget mosquito repellent ever!
My Dad contracted West Nile Virus from our flying friends
This disease took a soccer coach/ref, and first made him feel terrible, (ear ache sore neck) and then he was very sluggish to the point my mom called the ambulance. If you all recall 2 years ago he had a micro stroke, so that was every-ones fear. Well, never to be one to be out done , he went down hill big time monday, I chatted with him monday early morning at the hospital by phone. AT 7:30 pm, my brother called in tears saying I need to come home NOW, the doctor said to get the family in Right away. So now I am totally freaked out... short version, kim was to be out at dance lessons but as we all know she does not carry her cell phone, so add flip out point #2 to the list.
We left rochester at 9:40, got to Findlay at 4:30 am.... talk about dragging. Dad was in bad shape, blood pressure was up, his eyes were bugging out, he was restless and could not really talk, occasionally 1-3 words came out, generally mumbling. After an encouraging day of him laying there at least recognizing us we went to my brothers house and tried to sleep till we got a 5am call to hurry back, and he was having difficulty breathing. Dad is a professional trumpet player, lung capacity and strength were NEVER an issue. But at 7 am he was on a ventilator. So now we have feeding tube from the day before and a ventilator working.
We got on-line and found a case study for a new use of an old drug. opted not to do the blind study but go right for the real dose of the drug. When I left Thursday, he was resting comfortably in a semi coma, and stable,
Jump 2 days of semi-coma and no change. Today, Dad coughed out the ventilator tube, and
is breathing with out it. He has opened his eyes and is responding to voice commands again, he is far from out of the woods, but huge jump.
Me personally, I feel terribly guilty coming home with him in ICU, but when he was stable and all the family has come from all over the US, I can't justify Logan missing more school , since the rehab can be months.
But remember ALWAYS WERE YOUR DEET!!!!!
