Round 2

We WON!

And as the coach himself said: "Well that happened a hell of a lot sooner that I was expecting!"

On a typically cold, grey day at Moculta (if you know where this is then no further explanation is necessary), I led out a reserve-less team on to a slow, spongey track against a Two Wells team that was, as expected, dirty, rough, and volatile. Despite some questionable umpiring (it's ok, I'm the captain, I'm allowed to question the umpire) we came away with a 2 - 1 win that, apart from anything else, proved to ourselves that we have what it takes to compete at this level.

Interesting pieces of play included world-cup standard acting from the opposition (which, shockingly, resulted in a penalty stroke against us and the oppositions only goal), and a certain F-wit, whom I've had run-ins with over the last 10 years, using me as a magnet for his (running) shoulder three times near the end of the match when it looked like they were losing it. I've never felt so close to our ice-based sporting cousins! The really funny bit was when I didn't take the bait (by retaliating) as he wanted, and that made him angrier.

Ah, tis good to have a good win...
