my new year's resolution is to write in this journal. not every day- that's unrealistic- but at least once a week, if not more. ideally 2 or 3 times a week. about whatever. if nothing noteworthy is going on in my life, i'll pick out a question from "the book of questions" and go with that.
work is a good topic to start with. i'm working every weekend until march. i'm not thrilled with that, but my supervisor retired, which puts me in charge. until i can train the new people, which should take about 2 months, the director doesn't want them working alone on weekends. it's a bitch, but i also appreciate the responsibility, since my long term goal is to take the director's job, and, for all intents and purposes, make the shelter mine. that's no secret from anyone, especially her. she- her name is joan- founded the shelter 10 years ago, and has got to be at least in her mid 70's. joan's totally taken me under her wing, confided in me a lot, given me a lot of responsibility in a very small time period. she's going to florida for a month, and for that month, i'll be attending all of her meetings and taking over the decision making regarding animal intake.
one of my big projects as of now is to get Dottie adopted. She's a 3 year old Dalmatian mix who is great with people and other dogs, but does not show well at the shelter because of her horrendous bark. She knows "quiet" with a click-treat, but it only lasts a minute, and other people who go into the kennels don't reinforce it, which makes it difficult to maintain. i've been contacting rescue groups, but to no avail. i'd like to start a foster program at the shelter, but now that we're short staffed, i've got other stuff that takes priority- learning excel, for one (YUCK)- and things like foster programs will have to wait.
here's dottie:
anyway, enough work talk. my other new year's resolution, besides writing in my journal once a week, will from now on be to not monopolize my journal entries with work related stuff.
