(Apologies for the short update in the last post.)
Anyways, both the
news post and the
main post have been updated (and further updates are likely on the main list):
a) Contaminated rice gluten as well, this time from a different import/export company (Wilbur-Ellis); this indicates what is likely a general problem with food safety that may involve almost all Chinese grain products.
b) Royal Canin is no longer on the safe list--this is especially bad news, seeing as this means that all three of the makers of prescription pet food in North America are potentially affected. (Fortunately, Veterinary Information Network--a veterinary association covering something like fifty percent of all vets in the US--*is* giving its vets advise on how to obtain recipes for home-cooked alternatives for prescription diets.)
If your pet is on a prescription pet food, I implore you to contact your vet now to plan a homecooked diet plan.
c) Possibly up to five other non-recalled products--including two medical products (HeartGard Chewable heartwork preventative and "Pill Pockets" treats to place medication in)--may be linked to illness, per Veterinary Information Network (this gives you an idea on just how potentially widely contamination may affect--we're now likely getting into non-food, medically necessary products being contaminated)
d) I have officially expanded the warning worldwide due to reports that Royal Canin is being recalled in South Africa and due to reports of potentially contaminated pet food in Puerto Rico (Caribbean-area pet food tends to be made by different plants)--indicating contaminated feed may have been distributed worldwide.
