Since I can't go out next weekend for proper birthday shennanigans, then this weekend will have to suffice. So, it's pretty convenient that several of my favorite Dayton watering holes will be hosting a local music fest this weekend for me to drag my drunken ass around to. A few of my friends will be dropping by my place round about 4 p.m. We'll cook out and then head down to the Oregon District for some fun and music. I'll be there, mostly to see Enon. I know some of the other bands by name, so it will be nice to be able to cruise from bar to bar, having the obligatory shot and a beer at each bar and then sample some new music. I really wanted to see Sleepybird, but they're up against Enon, time-wise, so they lose. My schedule looks like...
Kentucky Overflow
Once-ler
Shrug
The American Static
Enon
...not bad for 10 bucks.

PRESS RELEASE/ Some crazy whims turn out to be just that. The there are other crazy ideas that turn out to be quite important. While I won't dare equate the Dayton Music Fest with Einstein's theory of relativity, the 1,000 people who showed up the first two years of the Dayton Music Fest seem to agree that this was an idea that this town needed. So the Dayton Music Fest is back with the simple idea to promote what the "Gem City" has to offer musically. Whether folk, rock, indie, punk, or metal, the goal is to unite the musical community of Dayton while at the same time announce what few people realize; that this forgotten Midwest industrial town produces some great music. So on this saturday night of October 6 (and October 5), the Oregon District will again be the place for the dedicated and the curious to wander between venues and experience music they just may fall in love with. Many people are talking about it so it is happening again, the third annual Dayton Music Fest.
TICKETS/ $10 pass is available now at daytonmusicfest.com, from participating bands, at Gem City Records, Dingleberry's, CD Connection, and from the venues the night of the Fest. All-ages shows at Creative Sound Cafe are free. The Dayton Music Fest Opening Party on October 5 is a separate $5 ticket available at Oregon Express the night of the show.
