Mental Illness in dogs?
So, while we were playing with our dog, Clover, yesterday, she put down a toy, and then immediately forgot where it was. Not so uncommon for our dogmutt, who is most kindly described as "a bit dense" and seems to have a geniune problem remembering commands, although she can relearn them within a few seconds. My boyfriend commented that she acted "just like me" (jokingly), because I have ADD and forget things or am distracted out of my concentration all the time.
That made me wonder if dogs can have mental illnesses. I've never heard of such a thing before, but I know there are people here who work more extensively with dogs than I do. Not neccesarily ADD, but schizophrenia? Multiple personalities? If so, how do they even go about diagnosing that?
