I have a break from School. Leah is in Seattle. Pep is here... I'm depressed about it all. Asheville is turning into a weird place. There are even bumper stickers which say, "Keep Asheville Weird."  I've lived here all my life and feel like an outsider looking in. I think once Levi and I graduate,  we are going to move to Utah where I can ( Read more... )

Hello, may I ask what you are studying and where? It sounds fascinating.

I'm in school at Lenoir Rhyne, Hickory North Carolina, the agency counseling graduate program. The course was to begin understanding how dreams can be used in therapy. It really was interesting and I learned more about the human conscious and unconscious then I ever anticipated as well as Jungian psychology. There was a book on Grief and dreaming that was really, really good. The text book was excellent as well. Thanks for commenting. Seldom that i see anyone reading my ramblings. :)

I found you when I searched for common interests. You listed Jon Kabat-Zinn. :)

Can you explain "agency counseling"? It sound a lot more fascinating (judging form this class) than my straight forward Masters in Mental Health Counseling!

Ah... can see why you would be interested. Please excuse my icon; I'm just a funk today. I like adding any friend of Jon Kabat-Zin to my list, may I?

MA in Agency Counseling is probably very close to what you have. I'm a substance abuse counselor and have been for 20 years. NC is forcing all of us to become licensed, which meant a return to school for me. It has been challenging. My brain isn't as young as it use to be.

I love your icon and I already added you as a friend! I took Jon Kabat-Zinn's MBSR course a couple of years ago with a local instructor, and was so impressed, I want to eventually begin using his technique in my practice after I graduate. How did you come by his name?

About your studies, look on a bright side - you are learning a lot of interesting things and exercising your brain against Alzheimer's - I think I plan to study forever for these two reasons. :)))

I think that is a really grand idea, studying for a lifetime. I must admit I really enjoy learning and being on a campus again. The younger adults are so bright and remarkable in their insight. My 24-year-old daughter is like that. I heard that with each new generation, intelligence increases. Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I look forward to talking more to you.
School starts next week and I'm taking two classes as well as working full time and taking care of the canines I'm guardian over. So I may not be on line for awhile, but I'll try to keep up.
I also did a 6 week local Mindfulness training and loved it. The 8 hour silent meditation was a bit challenging for my ADD, but I hung in there.
Peace be with you friend...:)

Our school starts on the 25th. I am very excited. I have been wanting to get a degree in counseling for a very long time, and I can not believe this might finally come true!

I did an 8 weeks course and did not do the one day retreat. I am trying to make meditation a part of my every day routine, but it is SO VERY HARD. Although the more I think about it the more I realize how this should be my biggest priority. I have chronic depression and I am beginning to accept that daily meditation and exercise are a must for me if I want to live a normal life...

That is wonderful about your excitement. I am excited too. What classes ae tyou taking? I too should practice more mindfulness, especially now with the stress of both work and school. I need to reorder the tapes. I start school on the 19th, day after my birthday. :)

Thank you... I will try to download. This is very helpful.

My classes are tough...lots of reading and projects. At this point, I wish I had stayed part-time.

Thanks for the happy birthday. I'm 57....I think. However, I still feel like I'm 27. I can't figure it out. Maybe after 50, you start going backwards. :)

It is good to feel young at heart. I have some friends who feel 60, even though they are still in their early 20's. That is sad. :)

Good luck with your studies. I am very nervous, but I am sure things will stabilize once the studies begin. It is always the scariest at the very beginning. :)
