The Dog Who Is Pele

Chance got a new toy last week, a squeaky-toy soccer ball about six inches in diameter. He has learned how to boot it across the kitchen floor so that it caroms off the cabinets. He intercepts it on the rebound and boots it again. Bemused cats sit on the stools, safely out of the way.

It was a busy weekend --

We signed our part of the closing papers last Friday night. The Traveling Notary came by at 730PM and, with Chance's invaluable help, all the papers were signed and attested to by 9PM. My signature suffered occasionally from puppy-nose under the writing elbow syndrome, though. The Buyer's loan papers should be ready early the week of 12/12, and the title-company hopes to do its magic on Wednesday or Thursday. That is cutting things a little closer that we want with the property taxes (they are billed in September, and must be payed by 12/15. bearmum will go over to the Country Recorder's office this week and then let the title-company know, so they can re-figure the distribution. We are responsible for the time before we accepted the offer, which was in mid-August. I am glad someone else has the job of keeping track of every-thing....

Saturday we went to the Yahoo! Holiday Party. Around 5,000 people, open bars (both sushi and alcoholic), and music by Earth Wind and Fire. A neat, if exhausting party. The three of us danced until past 11PM. The ankles are explaining to me that I really should get out dancing more often and let them get into condition.

Sunday afternoon we attended the investiture of our cross-the-street neighbor as Grand Master of the local Mason's lodge. Layers and layers of symbolism, and religious references (and not just to Judeo-Christianity). The Master of Ceremonies was this short, elderly, bald gentleman with a wicked sense of humor. In addition to the Master, a full slate of officers were inducted. One of the gentlemen was at least six foot six tall, and the byplay between the MC and the Senior Steward (elect) was hilarious.

We took the dog for a walk at 8PM and fell into bed by 9.

And this morning I went into the dentist and had my mouth er-arranged so she can replace the cracked crown on my left-upper-back-most molar. Much fun, as I write this the anesthesia is wearing off and my jaw is not saying pleasant things to me.
