NB: This is back dated.
The Morning of September 14, 2005 dawned crisp and clear, it's going to be warm today. The Alarm went off at 0600, and I started the water bed draining.
The Movers called at 0810, they were going to be a bit late, they had a low tire on the truck and they were going to get it replaced before they came over. At 0845 the Big Truck pulled up and things started to go into it. All of the boxes from the front room (there must have been a fold-box in the front of the truck, to get all that stuff in there), followed by furniture and other stuff. By 1330 they were done and set off to Fernside. I stayed behind with the dog, to continue the triage on the Green Room.
Anything we didn't want to move got put into the Green Room for later decision. Most of the stuff in there went off to the Estate Sale folks, but there were some bits we wanted to keep. The 'to go' stuff went into the front of the basement; the 'to Fernside' bits went into the kitchen, for later retrieval. During the actual loading, Chance was in the back-yard, so the state of the house was a bit of a shock to him. There was almost nothing in any of the rooms. And, the Cats were gone. And so were two thirds of his people. And, while the God of Dogs was still here, He was busy schlepping things from the third floor to the basement, and Dog's don't do basement stairs (too steep for him to feel comfortable). So Chance settled for following me around and sighing a lot. Around 1800 I took a break and we took one last walk around the old neighborhood.
Carol and
bearmum shepherded the unloading process over at Fernside through out the afternoon and into the early evening. Around 2000, they came over with supper (Boston Market makes a good meatloaf-to-go dinner). We continued to schlep. We schlepped boxes and books and stuff until past midnight. That's almost eighteen hours on my feet (the chairs got packed around 1000, and sitting on the stairs was a recipe to get stepped on). My feet an ankles haven't hurt so much since I was working as a bus-boy the first Summer of college. We packed it in just after 0000. We put Chance into the back of
bearmum's car, Carol and I loaded her car with boxes, and she took off. I rode the bike over to to the new house, very carefully. At 0110 I left a message with my Boss's phone saying "We are moved, here is the new phone number, I will *not* be in today." Then I took a handful of ibuprofen and tried to go to sleep. The ankles finally quit yammering and twitching around 0230.
