In the spirit of the season, the house took advantage of the post-Christmas sale at Fry's and acquired a pair of new 17-in flat-panel monitors, one for me, and one for
bearmum. Carol inherited
bearmum's 15 inch flat panel, and both the 14-inch flat-panels will go into the recycling system (initially they will wander off to the Little Girl's house as a second monitor for the "Boy's Game Machine". From there to the ACCR -- Alameda County Computer Recyclers -- in the fullness of time.)
Carol got the hand-me down screen because she got a new machine, a AMD 2600, in place of the 500 meg Pentium III she is currently using. We get to spend the rest of the afternoon setting up the new machine and copying her stuff over to it. This is going to require some investigation to make sure that all the parts of her cooking and recipe programs go over cleanly. This will also give us a good feel whether we want to go back to Central Computer next week and get another biggish hard-drive. The new machine came with a 40G drive, and Carol's old machine has a (partially full) 40 in it now. The idea is to build a 10G partition for the OS and leave 30G for the user files and data. Much Fun is being had. I will be taking
adric00 up on his offer of consulting when I get in too far over my head.
