Despite the hour the ER wasn't as crowded as he had feared, and after a wait that lasted no longer then him parking the car and coming back, they were given a darkened room on the second floor of the ER.  This was a good thing because Mac didn't want to have to throw his badge around start barking orders like he was something special.  While he had ( Read more... )

There wasn't much she remembered after she was put under, only that she prayed everything would go smoothly. Yes, it would go smoothly because no one in their right mind would give her so much happiness just to take it away. At least, that was what she hoped.

It wasn't long before she began to feel conscious of her surroundings. A little prick of pain surfaced, but only from the tiny flap of skin that was lifted so they could do the drilling. Asides from that, she was completely pain free.

Mac sat for what seemed like hours before he could find strength to stand and walk out of the hospital. The cold was chilling, it cut through his coat and shirt, and as he walked he felt numb from head to toe. It took him a long time to get his barrings, wandering from corner to corner until he figured out he was heading in the wrong direction ( ... )

Her eyes were fused shut. Why? she asked herself, wondering if the reason she couldn't open her eyes. She was still very tired, her body relaxed and her head pain free. Perhaps it was just her way of rebuilding her strength. Or maybe it was because she was so scared to open her eyes and not see him there.

She took a deep breath in. Sterile. Chilly. She was cold and unconsciously, she shivered. She did hear someone nearby, maybe a nurse because moments later, a warm blanket was laid over top of her.

"Mac.." she whispered, opening her eyes finally.

She looked like shit. That wasn't very fair, she had been through a lot, but it was his first thought when he saw her laying in what was called the "recovery room." Except it wasn't a room, it was a long hallway with curtains separating beds and patients. Nurses moved from bed to bed, machines beeped, he could smell antiseptic, iodine, blood, in such a clean environment the smell of blood made his stomach lurch for some reason ( ... )

Her own voice came out scratchy, maybe completely incomprehensible and that she only knew what she said through her mind. Green eyes rolled upwards, blinking a few times in an effort to put something into focus first. The second he said her name, her eyes fell to his.

The way she felt wasn't something she was comfortable with, in fact, she hated it. "High." she admitted with a scowl. "No more.."

"You look it," he finally laughed. "I think I could get a contact high just by kissing you." He was smiling down maybe it was the fact that she realized she was high, or the fact that she scowled. Reaching behind him, he pulled up a chair and sat down, still holding on to her hand.

"The doctors said it went well."

Her fingers curled a little tighter into his hand and she closed her eyes. At least then, the area they were in would stop closing in on her. "Kiss me anyways," she managed a weary smile. "I share everything with you."

She licked her lips, her mouth dry. "How long did it take?"

"How can I resist?" He murmured before leaning over her and tenderly pressing his lips to hers. The kiss was slow, tender and full over love for her. She tasted a little dry, and after being under for as long as she had, with the tube down her throat it didn't surprise him at all.

Pulling back he looked into her eyes and brushed his thumb over soft wisps of her hair. "Seven hours, I thought you had fallen in."

"You can't." she kissed him back with as much as she could, given how altered she was. Again, she didn't like the feeling, which was probably why she didn't drink much either.

Her eyes searched his and she could tell he was tired. Those beautiful gray eyes were more muted then they usually were, hint that he had spent all those seven hours worrying. "Never. I prefer taking my time." she grinned again.

"I don't think I want to." Still stroking her hair, he lifted his head just a little bit to press a soft kiss to her forehead, right under her bandage. As if he could kiss it and make it all better. Lingering there he close his eyes for a second and said a brief and silent prayer of thanks to whoever was listening.

"Just like a woman, we were suppose to be at the party hours ago," he joked lightly before sighing. "I got a crossword puzzle book and nearly finished it. I'm sorry."

Her head tilted into his kiss and her eyes closed intently, happy to be feeling the warmth of them. She had alot to be thankful for and Mac Taylor was at the top of that list. "I don't blame you."

She laughed softly, giving him her best innocent look. "We can still make it, or we can just forget it and have our own party." she returned, brushing her thumb along the top of his hand. "That is fine, just as long as you didn't look through whichever bridal magazine you bought."

"Let's have our own party," he murmured softly, fingers still combing through the ends of her hair as he looked down at her with eyes that were slowly becoming bright again. Seeing her, listening to her voice made all the anxiety and worry go away.

"I couldn't touch it. To tell you the truth it's a little intimidating." Chuckling slowly he brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it. "I love you."

"Mmm," she smiled. "I do like that idea very much." Her eyes opened again and she fixed them on his. Her fingers weaving a little tighter into his as if she needed the contact to balance herself out.

She gave him a slow nod, laughing as well. "I agree, but there are some beautiful designs that are simple and exactly what I'm looking for." Watching him, she moved her hand to brush along his jaw. "I love you too, Mac. With every beat of my heart."

He watched her try and struggle against the effects of the drugs and knew it couldn't be easy. His thumb played over her fingers, touching the wires and the heart monitor still attached to her finger. Even surrounded by all the garbage and the chaos of the hospital and painful healing that came with surgery, she looked wonderful, gentle and happy with her smiles.

"I'll leave the planning up to you, beautiful." He gave her another soft kiss on her forehead. "Go back to sleep, they'll take you to your room as soon as its ready."

She was tired and sleeping off the effects of the drugs they'd given her was a logical idea. Maybe later she'd actually be able to sort out her scrambled thoughts and think about planning a wedding.

"Hmm.." she smiled, her eyes falling shut again. "I'll need your input.." she trailed off, surrendering to her exhaustion without any warning.

He gently pulled the blankets up around her, smoothing her hospital gown over her shoulder, making sure she was decent, warm, comfortable. Mac's fingers moved lightly over her skin before he pressed his lips to her forehead and then her lips.

Standing up, he moved to his seat next to the bed and closed his eyes.
