Mac,

Thanks for the heads-up on the new schedule. Regulation's regulation. Question, though- I know it's not an issue now because Lindsay's on leave, but any way we could get at least some days off together per new schedule? Between overtime and opposite shifts, we're both worried about being able to spend time together as a family. We discussed it and if no one has any issues with it, we're willing to do/sacrifice what we have to do to make that happen.

Is there any differentiation between casual couples and those who are married, or is everyone in a workplace relationship on opposite shifts? I'm a little unclear on that. Again- regulation is regulation, Lindsay and I both understand that and we're willing to do what we have to do, but we don't want our family to suffer for it, and if one of us has to leave the NYPD or transfer so that it's possible, then we'd like to discuss our options before the baby comes.

Just covering the bases, Mac, trying to think of everything.

Thanks,

Danny Messer

Danny,

This will come up around review time and when she comes back from leave. As of now I see no problem with the two of you having some days off together.

It's my understanding that the department frowns on all types of relationships because of the chaos they can cause. No one wants families in the NYPD to suffer, least of all me.

Mac,

Of course the problem with this is that it's punishing us for being married and starting a family. I know it's policy and not your personal decision, but it still only officially causes a problem for my family because we are the only married members of the crime lab, at least as far as I know. While the department may frown on the relationships, the policy only affects those with legal relationships, unless I'm reading that wrong.

Thanks for being understanding.

Danny
