Haven was supposed to have a huge, magical grove along its borders, so forests were to be expected. No, it was the fact that she woke up, when she ( Read more... )

[Well that's rather inconvenient. Rose makes a face at the journal before replying.]

Alright, where am I then?

[No 'What is Kansas,' huh? So maybe it's someone from an Earth.]

It's called Luceti. Despite the wings an' the new dress... it ain't a very nice place. How's your reading comprehension?

[Nope, no 'What is Kansas.' Rose was in America since before Kansas officially became a state.]

I can read just fine. Have something I should take a look at?

Yeah. This explains a lot better than I could.

[The reference is a little strange, not at all what Rose is expecting, but she manages to find the pages that the girl is trying to show her. It's quite...extensive.]

Thanks, it looks like it will answer a lot of my questions...

I'm Rose Red, by the way. You can call me Rose.

[Now, Rogue actually is a bit of a fairy tale fan. And has met literary characters here before - like her housemate, Anne of Green Gables. But 'Rose Red' is not an extremely common fairy tale in her world, so all that happens here is a vague sort of 'I should know that name.']

Rogue. Nice ta meet ya, circumstances aside. Are ya findin' your way into the village all right?

Nice to meet you too, Rogue. But yeah, a friend of mine was already here so he found me in the forest. We're heading in now, out of this rain.

Is the weather always like this or did I just get lucky?

Ya just got lucky. The weather follows a normal four-season pattern here. It's July.

Well don't I feel special now.

[Rose chuckles a bit, shaking her head.]

So, have you been here long then?

Not as long as some. A few months.

[She's... not really much of a welcome-wagon committee member. Sorry, Rose.]

[That's okay, Rose appreciates any answers at all at this point.]

How long have some of the others been here?

The lady who wrote the guide's been here for almost four years.

[Rose has been alive for hundreds of years, so her sense of time is a bit skewed, but four years is still a rather long time, all things considered.]

And no one has escaped in all this time?

If they have, no one knows anythin' about it.

[She sighs. It was too much to hope for.]

Well thanks for the welcome anyway. Hopefully we'll all get back to where we belong soon.
