Summary: Thursday’s child has far to go.
Three days of detoxing turn into six, then eight, and after that Castiel feels better, but only a little. He can’t do much - his ribs scream whenever he moves and he’s exhausted all the time. Too exhausted, really, for it to be a side-effect of his injuries, or even the comedown from all the alcohol and drugs he’s fed himself over the past few years. He’s tired because he’s lost too much. He’s human. One hundred per cent mortal. The last angel to walk the Earth beside him has gone, and with him went any last vestige of his old self.
Castiel isn’t just weak and vulnerable and frail and hapless. He’s ordinary.
This is set in the universe that Dean visited when he went forward in time, except this time round Future Dean *does* kill Lucifer. This is set in the aftermath of that and it clocks in at over 11 hours long. I love how different Castiel is but how much it feels like it's written true to his character. He's a junkie and a bit of a nympho but it all seems like a natural progression and at his core he's still *Cas*.
During the podfic, every time it felt like it was getting too much and I couldn't take anymore (this is not all happy times, obvs) things would look better and I could relax. So, if you're looking for an epic podfic to settle down with over the next week or so then this is the one for you:)
