The JR train that wrecked today in Osaka really made some sweet loving to the apartment building it ran into. I think it certainly does say something about the culture here though: the driver was 1.5 minutes late after overshooting his stop a couple stations earlier and subsequently went faster to make up for lost time, resulting in 52 dead and 417 injured. One. Point. Five. Minutes. Dude must of thought his ass was on the line, whereas in America that's considered awesome timing.
I think it also says something about the culture when the president of the train company immediately issues a formal apology THEN goes to the hospital to do some personal deep bowing towards the remaining injured.
I consider myself lucky to live here.
