I think about validation A LOT. One time when it came up as an issue in my behavior, I thought to myself, "Yikes, I get my validation from people!"

I searched my brain for other ways to be validated. I thought about how I play guitar. Then I thought about what my guitar teacher always says-- that to grow as a musician I have to collaborate with other musicians. And then what is the next step? Performing for an AUDIENCE, which is totally getting one's validation from people!! Validation is some slippery shit!!!

Maybe we see it as ok to play guitar and want the audience to like it, because we are OFFERING of ourselves, something we feel pretty secure about...we are GIVING. Whereas saying "Whattaya think of my lip ring?" is wanting something, it is TAKING.

Certainly playing music for an audience demonstrates that we LOVE ourselves, which people are drawn to as a characteristic. Asking "How does this look" connotes insecurity, which is perceived as weak. And we all know, everything we do is pretty much driven by survival of the species; therefore weakness is bad bad bad!!

Performance can go too ways, vanity or validation. your sharing something you created or your crediting your music because people like it.

I don't care about weakness, anyone can be weak that wants, it's just not gonna get any points from me, hell i have my own weakness' but i accept them, I don't look to others to make my existence count.
