This passage from Open Your Eyes :

He might be a full-grown Rottie with the spirit of a Spartan warrior and a brutal background that pretty much defined the concept of evil put to human form until Bobby rolled along and stole him to salvation; but he was a big fucking baby, too. He spent at least as much time sprawled on his back on Bobby’s couch as ( Read more... )

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
There probably are only two things I won't ever tolerate, from anyone, and one is abuse done on the innocents, animals and children, that can't defend or speak for themselves. If I didn't love Bobby before, I certainly do now.
Break my heart AGAIN, will you?
*hugs you*

There are a lot of things I won't tolerate from anyone, but right at the top of my list is doing something like this to a dog. I'dve killed the fucker whether he was a shape-shifter or not. If I was Bobby, of course. ;)

Thank you. This was such a language-dependent piece I had to wait until I got the right rhythms to the words before I could put it to post. But hearache was very much my target zone.

Interesting insight into who Bobby is before the boys get to know him better. A loner, a protector, a defender; but in a quite subtle way that goes unnoticed by most.

Bobby always strikes me as the kind of invisible hunter John strives to be, but because of John's overtly heroic mentality, he can never quite manage. So Johh tries to slip in and out unnoticed and never quite manages it, always leaving behind an impression of who he was, beit good or bad. And his boys are like that, too.

But Bobby, on the other hand, is so much a part of the landscape in which he lives that no one ever takes him as anything other than what he appears to be. But under that facade of good ole boy salvage yard owner beats the heart of a man as effective at and dedicated to fighting evil as John ever dared be. He just does it in a different way, one that allows him to settle in someplace and stay because even in taking down the quarry, he never shows the blood on hands others perceive as merely greasy.

This made me cry, and I do. not. cry. over fanfics. Just because it's got a perfect Bobby-voice is and the most outstanding hurt-comfort I've ever read is no excuse for me to get all teary-eyed. Bobby's reaction to being bitten made me love him even more. (What?!)

If I start quoting the parts I really like, this will go on and on, but you've got that earthy, down-home matter-of-factness that IS Bobby Singer. Like, One of the advantages to hunting in the middle of nowhere was the disgraceful lack of arson investigators working this end of where the buffalo roam. There was one in Sioux Falls - a drunk fuck who wouldn’t know which end of a matchstick to worry about if someone went to strike it on his ass.

This is made of awesome, and so are you.

Thanks. :D I knew the second I wrote the line about Bobby stealing Rumsfeld to salvation in OPEN YOUR EYES that I'd eventually write this piece. And more or less, I even knew what it would be. One of Jim Beaver's mad skills is in creating an everyman character so realistic he doesn't seem to be a character, but rather smacks as a real man. Elsworth from Deadwood was like that, too. And for the life of me, I can't view either Bobby or Elsworth as characters. They're just men who do what they would do, and speak as they would speak. Which is an amazing accomplishment for an actor, methinks. Especially in the context of a roel with a relatively limited presence in terms of screen time.
