SPN Fic: Revisionist History (Gen, PG13, The Usual Suspects)

Nov 10, 2006 15:35

Yeah, I might have mentioned something about The Usual Suspects bending me a little in how badly it mangled it's own internal logic, right? So obsessing on such things as I am wont to do, I found myself re-writing the ending to make it address some of the things that most irked me -- most of which were the weasy little lawyer gaffes (those were ( Read more... )

You know, that ending rubbed me the wrong way too. I like yours MUCH better.

I have just started reading SPN fic. I downloaded a whole heap that I liked and then I realised that virtually all of them were by you. You are like my default SPN writer. I particularly like the stuff where they are kids - you walk that line between sweet and too sweet so well.

I have no idea how I missed responding to this, but you so rock for saying it. I don't think I've ever been anyone's default SPN writer before. That's awesome. You've made my night.

I love writing the boys as kids, and John in father-balancing-hunter mode. That is, by far, my favorite aspect of SPN and they've been so kind to leave it completely open for me to pretty much do as I will. I love that in a show. :D

I'll look forward to your feedback as you read. Unless I totally lose my mind again, I'll actually even RESPOND to your feedback. Again, sorry I'm so slow. I have no idea how this slipped through the cracks.

OOooooOOOooOOhh! Well, now that certainly puts an interesting spin on things.

Of course, my own internal logic says that a woman that tiny couldn't cut a grown man's throat so deeply that his vertebra were visible but I definitely like how you ended this.

Of course, now we just need the end to "Seasons"...

Ow! No hitting!

Sure she can. Catching him unawares enough to give her an oportunity to get the job started without interference would be a greater challenge. But I've seen some very petite lady cops do things to very large, belligerent men that totally saw them coming to make me a believer that there are very few physical wounds a man can inflict that a woman can't equally inflict.

Finish seasons ... yer killin me here. :D

Did you see Linda Blair? She was so cute and tiny! I just wanted to tuck her in my pocket!

Of course, that also adds and element. How determined this this petite woman have to be to kill these people? Very, apparently. Which makes her...what's the word?...batship crazy. Which is very cool.

And that she really did manipulate the entire situation. Because she's a batshit crazy evil genius. So, yes, very cool.

Dude, I don't want to hear you cry about finishing this fic. This is why WIP is the work of the Devil. Now hurry up!

Whoo! Can you redo the whole episode now? This may wind up being my fave after the fanfic!

LOL. Thanks. The sad part is, this took at least triple the wordage to do because I decided I wanted to change what actually aired as little as I possibly could, so things that would have been more easily and consisely addressed earlier had to get the ruminations treatment, which takes time and verbage. Were I to doctor the episode as a whole, bet I could change 30 lines and shift the whole focus to reflect this with only an add-on scene of a couple of minutes, if that.

Of course, then everybody would have the opportunity to bitch about the way I did it intead of the way they did, so there is that ... LOL

I actually didn't mind the ending of that ep, but I still like yours better. Very cool. I definitely think Kripke has a bad habbit of making a lot of the female characters kind of ... slow and overemotional. This ending would have really given the episode a Wow-factor!

Bravo!

Thanks! I absolutely LOVED Kathleen from THE BENDERS both as a cop and as a woman. She was totally rockin. And I loved Layla from FAITH, too. And was very fond of the girl from WENDIGO.

And, of course, I totally am spastically nuts about Ellen.

So I don't see it so much as a bad habit of Kripke's as much as I do a lazy out that he occasionally falls prey to. Usually at the most in opportune times, eh? Cause, I mean, Linda Blair! What kind of wonderful opportunity did THAT present to create another Kathleen-level character.
