OMG! From a life-long Trekker, the new Trek movie is ...

MADE.

OF.

WIN!!!

Fudgin AWEsome, man. I was watching with my half-twitch fully engaged as I'd heard universally good feedback from a number of friends who I consider as bone-deep a Trekker as myself, but still, there are several involved in whom I had very little confidence and many, many ( Read more... )

I guess people reading this will realize there could be spoilers for the movie here, yeah? Cuz, I'm about to spoil like there was no tomorrow.

I totally agree with you; cannot say enough about how much I loved it. And I went into it not knowing a thing about it other than that it was ST--not even that it had any connection to the original series, which I grew up loving. The casting is unbelievably good. I couldn't get over Bones; he was perfect.

One thing that was a little jarring for me personally was that Zachary Quinto bears an odd resemblance to my oldest son, especially around the eyes, and they even carry themselves much the same way. It wasn't just, "Oh, he reminds me of Aaron"--it was more like every time he came onscreen I went, "Oh, hi Aaron!" Weird.

But I still loved it. I'm usually not a fan of the timeline reset, especially when you're fucking with something I care about as much as ST:TOS, but this one really worked for me. (Except for Spock/Uhura, which didn't really work for me; Imma say that shit ( ... )

More Zachary Quinto than Spock, though he does kind of have that dispassionate, unsmiling thing going on. His ears are not particularly pointy, that I've noticed. Handsome, though. :D

Dark, handsome and moody! The girls will be throwing themselves at him.
(Hope he hasn't got Spock's hair cut)

I loved everything about it. The casting was actually the scary part for me. I wasn't seeing anyone I was sure could pull off their jobs except Bana, although I had hopes that Quinto was up to the task and I just couldn't imagine it. But Urban, in particular, worried me; but he was fuckin awesome. Castwise, though, Simon Pegg just stole the show, I thought (Barring Bruce, of course, who is always awesome beyond count). He cracked my ass up every time he opened his mouth. And my fears about JJ helming the show were balanced out a bit by Orci and Kurtzman's scripting (I fucking LOVE the Fringe, and was overly fond of MI3, The Island and Transformers all 3), but the whole package turned out to be exactly the right mix of homage and new invention.
