Ficage In January.
January was a really good month for me for writing. I made myself a very simple goal at the beginning of the year - 500 words a week. It’s not much but it’s way more than I managed towards the end of last year. My big problem is just getting myself to sit down to write - (once on the computer, I usually get distracted by shiny things). I figured if I just made myself start writing, odds are I would get a good flow going.
And it seems to have worked.
The big thing I did this month was write two Firefly fics. It’s been a couple of years since I wrote any Firefly. I thought I might have a problem slipping back into Firefly-speak but it was like riding a bike, I just picked it right back up. You know how if you see a friend or family member again after an absence of a few years and in five minutes it is like no time has passed at all between you? Writing Firefly is like that - it’s like coming home for me.
I also wrote a pairing in SPN that I had never tried before, Dean/Gabriel, and a really dark Wincest fic that stretched my writing beyond my comfort zone, which is always fun and interesting.
Here is my approximate word count for the month.
January, 2012
Week One: 550 words of SPN Gen fic. Completed. (already posted!)
Week Two: 1,500 words of Firefly Jayne/Mal fic.
Week Three: 2,000 words of the same Firefly fic. Completed. (sent to beta!)
Week Four: 250 words of Hawaii Five-O Steve/Danny AU comment fic. Completed.
1,750 words of a Dean/Cas AU Valentine’s fic. Only three scenes left to write.
850 words of a Firefly Gen comment fic. Completed.
Week Four and a Half (i.e. Sunday): 650 words of SPN Dean/Gabriel fic. Completed. (already posted!)
1,250 words of SPN Sam/Dean fic. Completed. (sent to beta!)
8,800 words written in January!
I am feeling really good about this. Especially considering my goal for the month was 2,000 words.
Anyways, I never did that whole “Fic in 2011” meme post thingy I had planned on doing, but I got to thinking anyways about past fic. So, mostly for my own personal memory lane trip, here are the fics I posted in January of 2011.
Drama Is Not Subjective:
The BFF and I were watching "Entourage" one day and Jessica Alba was in it as herself. The BFF made an off-hand comment about how easy it would be to crossover Entourage with CW RPS. Unbeknownst to her, I went to work writing it for her for Christmas. I still get a delight over how easily I found the voices for the Entourage characters. In this story, Johnny Drama hates Jensen - (because Jensen steals his roles, because he's prettier than Drama, and because of some past incident neither of them will talk about). The best part of this fic? Misha Collins snuck his way in and stole the whole damn thing.
Illegal, Immoral and Incestuous:
My very first Hawaii Five-O fic! queenklu and I were discussing how maybe cousin doesn't actually mean cousin when it comes to Chin and Kono, because hoyboy is their chemistry off the charts. Combine that with my love for a flustered Danny Williams and I was off. In it, Danny keeps finding Chin and Kono in telling situations and is totally freaking out. Flustered!Danny is fun to write and Chin/Kono are totally hot and I regret nothing.
I think the next thing I post will probably be the Jayne/Mal Firefly fic. In the meantime, I haven't written anything since Sunday, so in order to make this week's word count, I have to hunker down today. Like, right now.
